Word from the Doctor

Ok, here’s the dilly. She says that sugar shouldn’t affect the purine level in the body. But that caffine does dehydrate. So by not drinking water and drinking beer. Yes. I have been aggravating the condition. Oh well, now I know. So anyway, she gave me a prescription. Two little pills + 1 every hour till the pain goes away.

The pain didn’t go away, but it did lift quite abit. I’m not so grumpy anymore. By Sunday I should be good as new.

Also, tried repeatedly to call Tyler & Zach, but now their machine is full and still no call back. Guess I’ll just see them in the morning when I pick them up.

Gout

So, yesterday I knew this was coming. I could feel a little tingle in my foot. This morning I was certain it was coming on. Gout. Uric acid crystals collecting in the joints of my big toe. It sounds silly but, dear god, is it painful. This time around I called the doctor before it really hurt. Good thing too, as the pain has been growing all day. I can litterally feel my foot swelling in my shoe and 2:45 (my doctor’s appointment) can’t get here soon enough.

So I watch my diet, I drink very little booze… but I screwed up. That’s right this time it’s all my fault. I had a inkling that either sugar or caffine irritated the condition. I was leaning towards caffine, but I’ve spoken to a couple of people who say it’s the sugar. Anyway, so for the last 3 months or so I’ve had 3 or 4 cups of coffee w/ flavored cream (read as sugar milk) each morning, followed that with countless glasses of sweetened ice tea, and more recently, topped off with a bottle or two of citrus beer each night. Not to mention the soda I let myself indulge in on game days. And all the water that I was drinking at work? Well, no job means no water, not that we don’t have water, just that I haven’t trained myself to drink it at home. So I know exactly where this attack is coming from.

Only I didn’t have the foresight to see what I was doing. I’m hoping the doctor will tell me if it’s the caffine or the sugar, or if it’s both. Then I’ll have a better idea of what needs to go. I’ll give you the details when I get back.

Birthdays and Grammar

Well, today was my son’s birthday. Tyler turned 13. He’s a teen now. I tried to call him and got the machine. He never called back, not that they ever do, so I’m left to assume that he didn’t get my message. Great. Another father of the year vote for me. Anyway, my grandfather is coming into town, so the whole family is going to do a Father’s Day/Tyler’s Birthday thing on Sunday. Should be nice. I haven’t seen my grandfather in a long while. I can’t remember if it was last year, or the year before, that he was last in town.

Last I asked Ty, he still didn’t know what he wanted for a gift. So the wife and I went out tonight and looked around. Didn’t get him anything. But we did come home with groceries, two paperbacks, and I picked up a grammar book. Claims to be able to improve my sentence structure in 30 minutes a day. I don’t expect it to be very interesting, but after getting my novel back from the proof-reader (thanks Doug!) I realized that I need to do something to improve my writing. See I still have problems with comma’s, and sentence structure. I figure that this can’t make it any worse and it should save Doug from using all that red ink.

A Little Bit About Customization

Ok, so I tried a couple different ways to make this log look like the rest of the site. In the end this is what I came up with. Tasha, my wife, is the one who pointed out that I could simply have the forum, guestbook, and log all open in seperate windows. Why I didn’t think of that I don’t know. Maybe it’s fatigue.

Anyway, this is all up now and though I’m still not happy with the guestbook or the forum, I think this part of the site will be alright. That’s all for now.
